As a Texan myself, I always love the opportunity to escape the prairies for the mountain vistas, skiing, and of course, the cooler summer temperatures.
I'm here in Colorado again for Mother Nature this summer, but not to enjoy her company. This time, I'm here to support the hundreds of friends and neighbors who have lost their homes due to the wildfire wrath.
More than 350 Red Cross volunteers and staffers are working on the Colorado wildfires with several of us being Texans.
I'm in Colorado Springs, Colo. with Ft. Worth volunteer, Ken Riel, and several others from Texas as we provide support for the 30,000 people directly impacted by the wildfires.
We are hearing stories of survival and, of course, the loss of so many homes.
Stories of people having just minutes to escape the walls of flames that cascaded down the mountain ridges reminds us the importance of having a plan to evacuate your family and pets in place ahead of disaster.
Disaster can impact you and your family no matter where you live. Many Colorado families are survivors because they had a plan.

The fires continue burning here in Colorado Springs so the Red Cross will continue to be here to help.
